Percy Prepares for Congressional Hearings on Hedge Funds
Congressional hearings on hedge funds are scheduled for early April and I have no idea what the new chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Barney Frank, plans to do about them, if anything. Chairman Frank was for hedge fund legislation before he was unsure about it:
Mr. Frank has previously said there should be more regulation of hedge funds, investment pools that raise funds from institutional investors and wealthy individuals. In recent months, however, he has softened that stance, suggesting that more information is needed before any decision on possible legislation is made. Congressional hearings on hedge funds are scheduled for early April. In preparation for my testimony, I'm calling on the Greensboro blogging community to help with a mock House Financial Services Committee hearing on hedge funds. The committee has 70 members, including 4 from North Carolina — Melvin L. Watt, Brad Miller, Walter B. Jones and Patrick T. McHenry — so participation will be limited to approximately 4% of local bloggers (although the mock Congressional hearing room at my estate has plenty of space for all non-participating local bloggers, as well as press, to observe the mock hearings). Each participating blogger will play the role of a Financial Services Committee member. Please e-mail me or leave a comment on your availability for the second half of March along with the Committee member who you'd like to play in the mock hearings.
Thanks.
