Ask Percy: Excellence in Blogging

Q.  Hey, Percy.  How do you deliver such an exceptionally good blog product while managing over $80 billion in assets?

      — Leonard, Lindley Park, Greensboro

A.  Thanks for the compliment, Leonard.  With the U.S. markets closed today in observance of President's Day and some of my staff having the day off, I thought it appropriate to take this time to answer this frequently asked question.

I don't mean to diminish my own blogging skills, but some of the quality product you read every day is due to the efforts of a dedicated staff.  I've previously identified eleven of the administrative staff, but I have 30 other staff  members that are focused exclusively on content development.

This content development staff is divided into five departments of six individuals:

1. Hedge fund content
2. Billionaire content
3. Greensboro content
4. Percy Walker content
5. Miscellaneous content (e.g., non-hedge fund alternative investing, traditional investing, classiness, blogging and blog commenting)

You may be asking, "why such a lean staff?"  It's pretty simple: we utilize a proprietary software that allows us to scour the Internet with pinpoint accuracy to find items to which we react.

As you can tell, though, not everything we do here is reactive.  Each of my departments is equally divided between proactive and reactive teams.  Each team has a leader who reports to his or her department head.  At 7 a.m. each morning I meet with the department heads to discuss the day's content.  After about a half hour, I begin dictating the day's blog items.  The administrative staff then takes over and posts those items (with appropriate hyperlinks) over the course of the day.

Thanks for reading the blog!

Some software, even MS Word has grammar checking.

Thanks, Roch.  My proof readers and software engineers have the day off.  I think I fixed it (not including clumsy and/or mixed metaphors).
