Percy Responds to His Critics: "No, I'm not Jewish"

People are questioning the sincerity of my Christmas advice out of the belief that I'm not actually Christian.  The theory seems to be that only Jews can talk about whether someone is Jewish-looking.

The truth is:  I'm not Jewish.  You can check the Rule 13d filings made with the SEC and see that I don't own 5% or more of any media company.  Also, if you watch Pope Benedict celebrate the midnight mass tonight, you'll see me receive communion from him.  The Pope doesn't let non-Catholics receive communion.

Like my inverse namesake, Walker Percy, I was raised Protestant and later converted to Catholicism, making me the kind of Christian St. Peter envisioned we all should be.  Being Catholic, though, doesn't stop me from appreciating the many Jewish contributions to the celebration of Christmas.  Here, for example, are my top 5 Christmas songs written by Jews:
  1. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Johnny Marks, who also wrote Holly Jolly Christmas and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree)
  2. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) (Mel Torme)
  3. White Christmas (Irving Berlin)
  4. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (George Wyle)
  5. Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! (Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne)
(Here's my source for the list.)

Mr. Percy I do not challenge your religion or race or whatever. I question your appalling waste of time two days before Christmas. I ran out of fingers and toes before counting all your blog entries, but I know it was a lot. If you with all your billions can not find a needy child and or family in Greensboro/Guilford to spend this time providing a decent Christmas for then I will be happy to accept your check and act as your emissary. Of course this is short notice for this Christmas, but NEED KNOWS NO SEASON so my husband and I remain actively involved trying to help those God has seen not to bless as he has blessed us, and you even more so. Again the name is Brenda Bowers.

Those we help besides the Salvation Army are the homeless on the streets, Battered Women and Children, Local food pantries and shelters, Animal shelters and just about anyone we see or hear of who has a need they can not provide for themselves. We are not affliated with any church or group in our endeavors and usually give the help needed rather than money which can be used for anything but what we intended it for. BB

And a Very Merry Christmas to you Sir.

Brenda -- Thank you and your husband for your good works, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

As for my blog, my staff made changes to the site recently which made it seem as though my entries had been written of late. My Christian staff will have the day off tomorrow, though.

As for my own charitable giving, I have made arrangements to give away 99% of my wealth when I turn 47.

This is as it should be Mr. Walker! Afterall just how much money does one need to live well? Far less than a billion I am sure. Tho being one of mundane tastes I may be wrong on that score. However if my barb hit unfairly please forgive an old broad who sometimes even at an age where I should have learned better, still jumps to conclusions.

Actually I don't read your blog often since my days of active investing are over. We are now just trying to live comfortably on decisions we made in the past. BB
