Percy on the Issues: Affirmative Action

I'm running for Congress in 2008 and tackling the issues of the day right here on my blog.  To read previous installments in the "Percy on the Issue" series, click here and follow the hyperlinks back.  Today's topic: affirmative action.

Like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I believe that we should, first and foremost, judge a person by the content of his character.  The color of one's skin, to me, is barely in the top ten of things by which a person should be judged.  Here's my top ten list (in descending order):

1. Content of character

2. I.Q.

3. Schools attended

4. Occupation

5. Weight

6. Whether person has car with a personalized license plate

7. Religion

8. Whether person has an M.D. or Ph.D and introduces self as doctor

9. Color of skin

10. National origin
